This lampshade sculpture, The Chrysalis, was created as part of a project, where I sought to explore themes of rebirth and creative renewal. Inspired by the natural process of metamorphosis, The Chrysalis emphasizes transformation in both its design and the way it interacts with its surroundings. The layered design mirrors the structure of a chrysalis, with textures and patterns that come alive when illuminated. When lit, The Chrysalis turns any space into a cocoon of light and shadow, much like the protective embrace of a caterpillar’s chrysalis before it transforms into a butterfly.
The concept took shape during my time living in Barcelona—a chapter of growth and transformation that felt like my own metamorphosis. Navigating the city’s winding streets, mastering its rhythms, and finding my place in its chaos became a testament to resilience and adaptation. It’s my visual reminder that even in stillness, growth is happening.
